July 13, 2010

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland (AP)—Graeme McDowell is trying not to get too caught upin his newfound star status as the U.S. Open champion, not when there’s anothermajor championship about to start.

Even with all the text messages, voice mails and e-mails he’s gotten, not tomention all the other players who’ve come up to congratulate him, McDowell saidTuesday he’s still trying to absorb his victory at Pebble Beach last month. He’senjoying every minute of the frenzy, but McDowell knows he has to be careful, too. While some first-time major champions have quickly added another title, thelist of those who’ve done little else of significance is far longer.
