Stanford’s mother diagnosed with breast cancer

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP)—The mother of LPGA Tour player Angela Stanford has beendiagnosed with breast cancer and soon will begin treatment with chemotherapy.
Stanford, No. 7 on the LPGA Tour money list and third in the Solheim Cupstandings, decided not to play in Rochester, N.Y., this week and is not surewhen she will return pending the recovery of her mother, Nan Stanford.
The U.S. Women’s Open is in two weeks at Saucon Valley near Philadelphia.
“My mom’s health and happiness are the most important things for me and myfamily,” Stanford said. “We’re doing everything we can to make sure of thatand help her recovery.”
