Golf-Immelman pulls out of British Open with wrist injury (Reuters)

LOCH LOMOND, Scotland, July 8 (Reuters) – Former U.S.Masters champion Trevor Immelman will miss next week’s BritishOpen at Turnberry because of a persistent injury to his leftwrist.

“The Open championship has always been one of my twofavourite tournaments and it has been a thrill for me to competein the tournament since my first time there in 2002,” the SouthAfrican said in a news release on Wednesday.

“My wrist injury has been responding well to treatment butat this point it just isn’t far enough along to allow me to beready for the Open.

“As disappointing as it will be to not be there, I have tocontinue doing what’s right for my long-term health. I’m lookingforward to continuing with the rehabilitation and getting backto doing what I love, playing golf,” added Immelman. The 2008 Masters champion has experienced discomfort in hiswrist for several months and was unable to play in last month’sU.S. Open.

Immelman said he hoped to return for the Canadian Open theweek after Turnberry.
