Calcavecchia leads at Pebble Beach

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP)—Mark Calcavecchia shot an 8-under 64 on Fridayat Del Monte to take a three-stroke lead in the Champions Tour’s First Tee Open.
Calcavecchia, in his first season on the 50-and-over tour after winning 13times on the PGA Tour, capped his bogey-free round with a birdie on the par-5ninth hole.
Fred Couples, Bob Tway, Tom Kite and 2006 winner Scott Simpson opened with67s at Del Monte, and Chip Beck had a 67 at Pebble Beach. Tom Pernice Jr. alsowas 5 under with six holes left at Pebble Beach—the site of the final roundSunday.
Two-time defending champion Jeff Sluman had a 68 at Del Monte.
