SINGAPORE, Nov 1 (Reuters) – Ian Poulter will take aone-stroke advantage into the final round of the Singapore Openafter the Briton rallied brilliantly early on Sunday to reclaimthe lead at the storm-hit event.
After a third weather delay in as many days suspendedSaturday’s third round, the entire field was forced to returnto the Serapong Course early. The rest appeared to helpPoulter, who had managed to throw away a five-stroke lead insix holes.
Poulter closed with a one-over 72 to sit on 11-under forthe $5 million co-sanctioned event, one ahead of GraemeMcDowell after the Northern Irishman fired a four-under 67.
Chinese number one Liang Wenchong is alone on third oneight-under, two clear of a group of seven players thatincludes, Swede Niclas Fasth, Dane Anders Hansen andco-overnight leader Kodai Ichihara of Japan.
On Saturday, Poulter had squandered his huge advantage overthe field with some erratic play and poor shot selection andwalked off the course under leaden skies tied for the lead oneight-under with Ichihara and France’s Thomas Levet.
He birdied his first hole back, the relatively easypar-five seventh hole, before surrendering back-to-back bogeysaround the turn to slip back to seven-under for the tournament.
The flamboyant Briton parred the 11th before his roundfinally kicked into gear and he recorded four birdies in sixholes to move back to the top of the standings.
McDowell has plotted a gradual climb up the leaderboard allweek and appeared helped by the suspension after an uninspiringfront nine to his truncated round on Saturday that included alone bogey against a string of pars.
However, the 30-year-old stormed into contention on theback nine, coming home in 30 as he picked up fives shots overeight holes before a disappointing par at the par-five 18thprevented him from ending the round in a tie for the lead.
American world number two Phil Mickelson is seven off thepace on four-under while Ireland’s Padraig Harrington is wellout of contention on two-over for the tournament.

SONOMA, Calif. (AP)—Things are going so well for John Cook these days that noteven an errant tee shot into the bunker on the 18th hole could throw him offstride.
Now it’s just a matter of hanging on.
Cook shrugged off his only mistake of the day to save par on the final holeand finish at 6-under 66 on Saturday, preserving his six-shot lead heading intothe final round of the Charles Schwab Cup Championships.
“Just for my psyche and my confidence, that was a good way to end it,”Cook said about his 8-foot putt on 18. “I wanted to make that putt bad. Theharder you want things, the more relaxed you have to be (and) I was prettyrelaxed over that putt.”

Cook, the Administaff Small Business Classic winner two weeks ago in Texas,had a 19-under 197 total on the Sonoma Golf Club course, the best 54-hole scorein a 72-hole tournament since Jack Nicklaus also had a 197 total in the 1990Senior Players Championship. Cook shot a tournament-record 62 on Friday.
The six-stroke lead is the largest after three rounds on the Champions Toursince Jay Haas had a six-stroke lead in the 2005 Schwab Cup Championship. Cookwon the Administaff Small Business Classic two weeks ago in Texas.
Russ Cochran (68) was second at 13 under. Tom Watson (71), who began the dayfour shots behind Cook, and Brad Bryant (69) were 12 under.
Cook will be tough to catch. He was in the sand three times and hit onlyeight fairways off the tee but avoided trouble most of the day with a short gamethat has been strong all tournament.
His best save came on the 18th after pushing his tee shot into the bunker onthe right side of the fairway. Instead of being able to go for the green withhis second shot, Cook was forced to punch out of the trap then hit a wedgewithin 8 feet.
Cochran, who had six birdies and two bogeys to move into second place, wasasked if he was looking forward to playing with Cook in Sunday’s final round.
“Not when he’s that far ahead,” Cochran joked. “He’s playing awfullywell.”
Season points leader Loren Roberts had the day’s best round with a 66 tomove to 7 under. Roberts struggled the first two rounds but had seven birdiesand one bogey to jump up 10 spots to 15th place. Third-place Bernhard Langer(70) was 9 under, 2008 points champ Haas (70) was tied with Roberts at 7 under,while Fred Funk, who went into the weekend 165 points out of the lead, was 2under following a 74.
The season points winner will receive a $1 million annuity.
“The first couple of days, particularly yesterday, I didn’t hit it well,didn’t putt well,” Roberts said. “I really went to work yesterday afternoon. Iwas the last guy on the range for a change.”
Unlike a day earlier when Cook needed just 23 putts in his 62, he had toscramble on a few holes. He bogeyed the 427-yard, par-4 12th, came back withbirdies on 13, 15 and 16 then salvaged par on the 18th.
Watson couldn’t sustain the momentum he built after making eight birdiesFriday. The 60-year-old Hall of Famer bogeyed the first hole and struggled withhis touch most of the afternoon.
That enabled Cochran to make his move. One of only three players to break 70in each of the first three rounds along with Cook and Bryant, Cochran had sixbirdies including one on the 142-yard, par-3 17th to move into second.
Langer looked as if he might make a stronger run at Roberts, getting to 10under after a birdie on the 417-yard, par-4 sixth, but had consecutive bogeys on7 and 8, dropped another stroke on the 18th.
Joey Sindelar withdrew and was taken to a hospital after complaining ofdizziness and shortness of breath. According to a Champions Tour spokesman,Sindelar became dizzy after playing the 204-yard, par-3 fourth hole.
Sindelar rested in between holes and tried to play the fifth beforewithdrawing. Medical personnel attended to Sindelar at the course and the51-year-old player was taken to the Sonoma Valley Hospital. Physicians laterdecided to keep Sindelar overnight for further tests.
Sindelar, a seven-time winner on the PGA Tour titles, was 7 under for thetournament before withdrawing.

CASARES, Spain (AP)—Ross Fisher beat Masters champion Angel Cabrera on thethird playoff hole Saturday to set up a World Match Play Championship finalagainst Anthony Kim.
Fisher won 1-up after Cabrera needed five shots to reach the green on thefinal hole. Fisher had sent his second shot from 244 yards within 5 feet of thepin in fading light at the Finca Cortesin golf course.
Kim advanced by beating Robert Allenby 5 and 4. Kim, who beat the Australian5 and 3 at the Presidents Cup, rallied from an early two-hole deficit, pullingaway at the 27th hole when he holed an approach from 101 yards.
The American first overcame an errant tee shot on the 26th to save par andhalve before holing out from 101 yards for an eagle at 27. He sank a birdie putton the 28th for a four-hole advantage.

Kim cited his par save at the 26th was the key.
“That was the hole that really sealed it for me,” he said.
Fisher sank birdie putts at the 32nd and 33rd holes to get ahead beforeCabrera forced the playoff by sending his second shot from the thick grass atthe last hole within 5 feet of the pin. Fisher missed his birdie attempt fromoff the green to set up sudden death.
“I figured he was going to go for it, but it was a high-risk shot and theodds of him pulling it off were slim,” Fisher said. “I saw him hit it and thenI heard the cheers and I thought ‘Oh my dear.”’
Both players missed winning putts on the first playoff hole.
Sunday’s 36-hole final will be both player’s first in their debut appearancein the event, with a $1.1 million prize on the line.
Kim barely held on to his driver at the 26th as his ball sailed left intothe bushes.
After taking relief, he pitched to 2 feet for his par, while Allenby misseda chance to trim the deficit to one hole by flubbing a chip and then pushing hisbirdie putt wide.
“What happened was pretty crucial because he gave me a gift,” Kim said.“He just miss-hit his chip a little and made par.”
Kim was elated at the 27th—a short par 4—after his sand wedge landed afew feet long before back-spinning into the hole. He then sank his birdie putton the 28th for a four-hole advantage over Allenby, who missed from 4 feet.
Allenby missed several opportunities to get within one before Kim boostedhis lead.
“The putter was pretty cold this afternoon,” Allenby said. “I just didn’tquite play good enough this afternoon and, you know, he hit a lot of great shotsand made a lot of good putts.”
Kim cruised from the 30th after taking a 5-up advantage.
“This is a very big tournament for me because it’s been a very toughyear,” said Kim, who a day earlier won his last hole to ensure his place in thelast four. “It’s very rewarding to come out here … and put on a good show.”
Fisher, who finished fourth at the Accenture Match Play Championship earlierthis year, finally got ahead on the 25th hole and was 2-up after 27.
Cabrera battled back to even it on the 30th and was 1-up after Fisherbounced his drive off a cart path and into the trees on his way to a bogey onthe 31st. But the Englishman soon took over.
“I fought back really well in the morning to give myself a great chance inthe afternoon,” Fisher said.
The last American to win the event was Corey Pavin in 1993. Shaun Micheelreached the final in 2006.

Madison has received more than 20 inches of rain in the last six weeks.
This is the first time a tournament has been scrapped outright because ofweather since the 1996 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, which was canceled dueto unplayable conditions. The last rainout came in Houston in 1991.

Levet and Ichihara were both 2 under for the round. Levet completed eightholes, and Ichihara finished seven.
“There are so many guys close the top of the leaderboard, within a fewshots, so this tournament is nowhere near finished,” Levet said. “I’m lookingforward to tomorrow because I love the battle.”
Australia’s Andrew Dodt and China’s Liang Wen-Chong were a stroke back, withboth finishing nine holes.
Ernie Els was in a group at 5 under. He had 10 holes left. Phil Mickelsonwas 2 under after 15 holes, and Padraig Harrington was 2 over through eight.
The second round was completed Saturday because of rain delays the previoustwo days. The third round was scheduled to finish Sunday morning.

SONOMA, Calif. (AP)—Joey Sindelar withdrew from the Charles Schwab CupChampionship and was taken to a hospital after complaining of dizziness duringthe third round.
According to a Champions Tour spokesman, Sindelar became dizzy after playingthe 204-yard, par-3 fourth hole Saturday. He rested in between holes and triedto play the fifth before withdrawing. Medical personnel attended to Sindelar atthe Sonoma Golf Club and the 51-year-old player was taken to a hospital forfurther tests.
Sindelar, a seven-time winner on the PGA Tour titles, was 7 under for thetournament before withdrawing. He’s winless in two years on the Champions Tour,but was second behind Fred Funk in the U.S. Senior Open in August.

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP)—Bill Britton shot a 7-under 65 to take a one-strokelead over Paul Daniels after the third round of the Senior PGA ProfessionalNational Championship at PGA Golf Club on Saturday.
The low 35 finishers will qualify for the 2010 Senior PGA Championship inMay at Colorado Golf Club near Denver.
Britton, the PGA director of instruction at Trump National Golf Club ColtsNeck in New Jersey, followed up back-to-back 69s with a third round highlightedby eight birdies that left him at 13-under 203.
The 54-year-old had only one hiccup, a three-putt bogey on No. 11.
“I really did putt well all day, and made some long ones,” Britton said.“I put my approach on No. 18 to a foot, which was a great way to finish.”
Daniels, from Port St. Lucie, Fla., had a 66 and Perry Arthur of Plano,Texas, shot a 67 to sit another stroke back in third.
Overnight co-leader Jim White shot a 72 and was among a group of six playerstied for fourth at 207 that included defending champion Kirk Hanefeld of Acton,Mass. Second-round co-leader Kim Thompson was alone in 11th after a 73.
Daniels, the second alternate in the South Florida PGA Section, didn’t knowthat he had landed a berth in the field until 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
“I am just relaxed and glad that I have this opportunity,” he said. “Ihad never made a cut in a national championship. Today, what can you say? Nobogeys and six birdies.”

CASARES, Spain, Oct 31 (Reuters) – American Anthony Kim andBriton Ross Fisher, making their debuts in the World Match PlayChampionship, will meet in Sunday’s 36-hole final.
Ryder Cup player Kim crushed Australian Robert Allenby 5 & 4and Fisher won a marathon struggle with U.S. Masters championAngel Cabrera at the 39th hole.
Kim beat Allenby 5 & 3 in a Presidents Cup singles matchearlier this month when the pair were involved in amuch-publicised spat.
The mood between them on Saturday was less than cordial, Kimoften trying his opponent’s patience by not conceding shortputts or conceding them after the Australian had marked and waspreparing to putt.
After finishing the 18-hole morning session all-square, Kimpowered to victory on the back of another wonder shot.
He claimed his semi-final spot by crashing a three-woodapproach to just four feet on the final hole on Friday to edgeout Australian Scott Strange.
This time it was Kim’s sand-iron that worked a minor miracleas he holed out from 100 yards on the ninth for an eagle twowhich took him three ahead.
The 24-year-old American was let off the hook on theprevious hole after driving into the Andalucian wilderness andtaking a penalty shot.
FLUFFED CHIP
Instead of losing the hole, a second fluffed chip by Allenbyallowed Kim to match the Australian’s par.
“I think the eighth really sealed it for me. The ninth was alittle bit extra,” Kim told reporters.
“Robert had gifted the seventh to me so that string of holesreally helped me out.”
Allenby criticised Kim for staying out late before theirPresidents Cup match.
“I’m going to get some real rest tonight,” the American saidon Saturday. “I need to get my legs into some hot water, I feellike I’ve been back-packing all week.”
Cabrera and Fisher were also all-square in the morning, withthe Englishman hitting back over the closing holes from threedown.
The afternoon session swayed backward and forward, withFisher ahead by a hole going to the last.
Cabrera’s closing birdie then set up extra holes, all playedover the long 18th.
A stunning approach to the green at the third time of askingin the playoff, while Cabrera did not find it in three, endedwith the Argentine conceding defeat.
“I fought back really well in the morning and then hung in,”said Fisher. “It means a lot to beat the Masters champion, hehits the ball miles and shows no fear.”
