FARGO, N.D. (AP)—A golfer in North Dakota achieved the nearly unthinkable—sinking two holes-in-one in the same round.
Troy Radermacher of Ellendale, N.D., used a pitching wedge Sunday to ace the116-yard 15th hole at Oxbow Country Club. The ball found the cup again on the135-yard fifth hole.
The Forum newspaper says Radermacher was golfing with family and friends. Hesays he has had a hard time believing what he did.
Golf Digest calculates the odds of two holes-in-one in the same round at 67million to one.
But he’s got company. Ruth Day, a 64-year-old retiree from northern England,shot two holes-in-one in the same round on Sept. 9. The next day, formerPittsburgh Pirates pitcher Steve Blass did the same in a span of 11 holes inPennsylvania.

ATLANTA (AP)—NBC Sports says the Tour Championship earned a 3.3 overnightrating, an 83 percent increase from a year ago when Tiger Woods wasn’t playingand the FedEx Cup had already been decided.
Phil Mickelson rallied to win the Tour Championship with a 65 on Sunday inAtlanta, beating Woods by three shots. Woods, however, captured the FedEx Cupand its $10 million prize.
The Tour Championship had a 1.8 overnight rating for the final round lastyear, when Camilo Villegas beat Sergio Garcia in a playoff. Vijay Singh hadmathematically clinched the FedEx Cup before the tournament started.
The Saturday overnight rating earned a 2.4, up from 1.3 last year.

ATLANTA (AP)—Tiger Woods was congratulated after he finished second in THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola. Phil Mickelson had the smaller check and felt like the biggest winner.
Sunday was the eighth time that golf's two biggest stars finished 1-2 in a tournament.
Never have they shared the spotlight, each going home with a trophy that was meaningful in its own way.

Mickelson capped off a tumultuous summer at home with a spectacular rally at East Lake, closing with a 5-under 65 to go from four shots behind to a three-shot victory, his first since his wife and mother were diagnosed with breast cancer in the spring.

Woods made two late birdies, not enough to put any heat on Mickelson, but to secure the FedExCup and its $10 million bonus. It finished a season in which he won six times and was no worse than second in nine of his 17 tournaments.

"I like the way today went," Mickelson said. "I was two back of him, I beat him by three. He gets the $10 million check, and I get $1 million. I've got no problem with that. I just love holding this finally."
He motioned toward the crystal trophy of THE TOUR Championship, which has not belonged to him since he won in 2000 at East Lake by again rallying in the final round to beat Woods.
Mickelson finished at 9-under 271 and finished second in the FedExCup. It was his third victory of the year, the 37th of his career, and it pushed him back to No. 2 in the Official World Golf Ranking.
"It means a lot to finish the year off on such a good note," Mickelson said. "We've been through a lot, and I'm very proud of my wife and my mom on the fight that they've been through. We're in good shape. Although day-to-day is tough, and it's not easy for them, we're fortunate that our long-term outlook is good."
Woods stood on the 18th green with his biggest rival, perturbed by his inability to make putts inside 20 feet, trying to remind himself that he had a remarkable season coming off major knee surgery.
"I'm sure I would probably be more happy tomorrow than I am right now, because you're in the moment trying to win this event," Woods said. "Winning takes care of everything. But when you're in the moment out there, I'm trying to win a golf tournament. I'm trying to beat Phil, he's trying to beat me … we're all there, and it was just a great leaderboard."

It was a great finish to a FedExCup that was compelling to the very end.
Three other players had a chance to capture the big prize along the back nine at East Lake.
Kenny Perry had a two-shot lead to start the final round and doubled it after two holes, only to implode with poor tee shots, bad chips and missed putts that led to a 74.
As it became clear Mickelson was headed toward victory, Steve Stricker only needed to finish ahead of Woods. He was in position until he found mud on his ball in the 16th fairway, sailed the green and made consecutive bogeys to shoot 69.
"I knew it was close, put it that way," Stricker said of the FedExCup race. "Whatever. I played my hardest."
Sean O'Hair stayed within range of Mickelson until he took a bogey on the 17th hole and wound up with a 69, alone in third.
"I was feeling the nerves a little bit out there, which was great to feel," O'Hair said. "I just didn't get it done."
Mickelson's only hope for the FedExCup was for Woods to finish eighth or worse, a remote possibility until Woods made his first birdie of the final round at No. 15, then ended a bizarre drought with a 35-foot birdie on the 16th. It was his first one-putt birdie in 24 holes.
"All I know is I was three and four back, I just needed to push, needed a run or two or three birdies to get me right back in the ball game," Woods said. "Unfortunately, that run didn't happen until 15. And that's a little late."
Mickelson seized control with a 31 on the front nine, and his lone birdie on the back came from a chip-in out of a nasty lie behind the 16th green that essentially secured his victory.
Confident as ever from his putting tips from former PGA champion Dave Stockton, Mickelson rolled in consecutive birdie putts of 15 feet on No. 3 and 30 feet on No. 4, then pulled into a share of the lead with a pitching wedge that caught the lip at No. 8 for a tap-in birdie.
Mickelson played the final 20 holes of THE TOUR Championship without a bogey.
Woods believed winning THE TOUR Championship would take care of the FedExCup. When he captured the cup two years ago under a different points system, he won the final two events, including a seven-shot win at East Lake.
"It feels certainly not like it did a couple of years ago when I won the tournament," Woods said. "That felt a little bit better."
Despite a one-shot lead through 36 holes at East Lake, Woods struggled on the greens Saturday and with the rest of his game in the final round. Except for his two-putt birdie on the par-5 15th, he had only four birdie putts inside 20 feet and missed them all.
"Phil played well. He did the things he needed to do this week," Woods said. "Unfortunately, I didn't putt well and consequently, I didn't push him. Phil ran off and got away from us."

Padraig Harrington did not win THE TOUR Championship, but he also did not make a double bogey or worse. He had made a big number in every tournament dating back to the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational. Harrington also overcame a difficult start on Sunday. He was 2 over through six holes and still managed to shoot 69 and tie for fourth. He says he will enjoy his winter in Ireland and rejoin the PGA TOUR in California in 2010.
Phil Mickelson went back to his childhood to win THE TOUR Championship. During his off week, Mickelson remembered how he putted while in college at Arizona State. He had always putted with his hands forward and with a forward press. With Dave Stockton reaffirming his technique during practice, Mickelson arrived at East Lake full of confidence. With his hands forward, Mickelson averaged 1.617 putts per green to lead the 30-player field.
Kenny Perry did not win THE TOUR Championship or the FedExCup, but he had plan ready in case he earned the $11.35 million. Perry has plans to set up a foundation for charity. "If I won, the money was going to charity. The Kenny Perry Foundation is still going to happen, but today would have been a great $11 million start."

ATLANTA (AP)—No matter how much they tinker with the FedEx Cup, there’s nevergoing to be a system that pleases everyone.
That said, it’s hard to argue with this photo op from the PGA Tour’sseason-ending moneyfest: Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson standing side-by-side onthe 18th green at East Lake Golf Club, each of them posing with a trophy of hisown.
Woods won the FedEx Cup—and, oh yeah, another $10 million for hisoverflowing bank account. Mickelson won the Tour Championship to close anemotional roller-coaster of a year with a flourish.

Just what PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem had in mind when he came up witha playoff system to spice things up after all the majors were done.
“Had I put myself in a position to where we had the entire FedEx Cup on theline coming down the stretch, that would have been even more exciting,”Mickelson said. “But I felt like the day turned out well.”
Woods didn’t win a major in a year for the first time since 2004, but it’shard to complain about a season with six wins and three runner-up finishes—allafter recovering from major knee surgery.
“To be as consistent as I have been all year is something that I’m veryproud of,” Woods said. “I certainly wouldn’t have expected that.”
Mickelson closed with a 5-under 65 to go from four shots behind to athree-stroke victory, his first since his wife and mother were diagnosed withbreast cancer in the spring.
“It means a lot to finish the year off on such a good note,” he said.“We’ve been through a lot, and I’m very proud of my wife and my mom on thefight that they’ve been through. We’re in good shape. Although day-to-day istough, and it’s not easy for them, we’re fortunate that our long-term outlook isgood.”
While Mickelson was pulling away in the tournament, the chase was muchtighter for the FedEx Cup and its $10 million bonus. Three other players beyondthe Big Two had a legitimate shot at the big prize.
— Kenny Perry started with a two-shot lead and doubled it after two holes,only to implode with poor tee shots, bad chips and missed putts that led to a74.
— As it became clear Mickelson was headed toward victory, Steve Strickeronly needed to finish ahead of Woods. He was in position until he found mud onhis ball in the 16th fairway, sailed the green and made consecutive bogeys toshoot a 69.

— Sean O’Hair stayed within range of Mickelson until a bogey on the 17thhole and wound up with a 69, alone in third.
“There was so much riding on the line,” Stricker said. “There might besome tweaking again. Who knows? But I thought it provided a lot of excitementfor the fans and the players. All the players coming in here this week had alegitimate chance at winning the FedEx Cup.”
Indeed, this third incarnation of the season-ending playoff was certainlymore compelling than the first two. Woods won easily in 2007, even whileskipping one of the playoff events. Last year, Vijay Singh merely had to show upfor four rounds at East Lake to ensure his title.
This time, there was more emphasis on who played well late in the season,and the points system was altered to give all 30 finalists at least a semblanceof a chance going into the Tour Championship.

“What is right? Every year you’re going to have a scenario that’s going tojump out and you’re going to say, ‘That just doesn’t seem right,”’ Strickersaid. “You’ve got to put something together like they did this year thatcreates a lot of excitement like this did. With five guys having a chance towin, it did do that.”
Mickelson finished at 9-under 271 and earned $1.35 million. He alsocollected $3 million for being second in the FedEx Cup. It was his third victoryof the year, the 37th of his career and it pushed him back to No. 2 in the worldranking.
Woods, playing in the final group with Perry, struggled most of the day withhis putter, but two late birdies helped him lock up the cup.
As he stood on the 18th green with his biggest rival, perturbed by hisinability to make putts inside 20 feet, Woods found it hard to consider himselfa winner.
“I’m sure I would probably be more happy tomorrow than I am right now,because you’re in the moment trying to win this event,” he said. “I’m tryingto beat Phil, he’s trying to beat me.”

Mickelson seized control with a 31 on the front nine. His lone birdie on theback came from a chip-in out of a nasty lie behind the 16th green thatessentially secured his victory.
Lefty’s only hope for the FedEx Cup was for Woods to finish eighth or worse,a slight possibility until Woods made his first birdie of the final round withtwo putts at the par-5 15th. He followed with a 35-foot birdie on the 16th—hisfirst one-putt birdie in 24 holes, which brought out his first fist pump of theday.
“I just needed to push, needed a run or two or three birdies to get meright back in the ball game,” Woods said. “Unfortunately, that run didn’thappen until 15. And that’s a little late.”
Still, Woods got the title—and the prize—that mattered most to anotherof his rivals.
“I’d prefer the 10 million bucks in my pocket,” O’Hair said. “I thinkTiger wins today.”
The PGA Tour was a winner, too.

Ballesteros, who has undergone four operations to remove a cancerous braintumor, had hoped to attend this weekend but decided to stay home because offatigue.
“I am very sorry I cannot be with you this year,” Ballesteros said in avideo message posted Sunday. “I just finished my radiotherapy and that reallymakes me very tired. That was expected. Hopefully I should be OK in about onemonth.”
Ballesteros added that he was looking forward for the seventh edition of thetournament in 2011.

KYOTO, Japan (AP)—Daisuke Maruyama of Japan has ended a four-year titledrought by winning the Asia-Pacific Open.
The former PGA Tour player held the overnight lead and only managed a 3-over74 in tough conditions in the final round on Sunday. That was good enough tostay four strokes clear of China’s Liang Wen-chong, South Korea’s Kim Kyung-taeand Japan’s Yuta Ikeda.
Maruyama’s 8-under 276 total earned him $320,444 and a two-year’s exemptionon the Asian Tour and Japan Golf Tour.
He earned his first victory since the 2005 Fuji Sankei Classic.
Japanese star Ryo Ishikawa birdied his closing two holes for a 72 andfinished tied for 16th at 286.

Ochoa, playing in the same group as Gustafson, couldn’t match the Swede’spower off the tee, but made up for it around the greens. The Mexican star had abogey-free round, overcoming swirling wind that seemed to change direction onevery tee box.
She had only two birdies on the front nine then warmed up on the back afterfalling four strokes back when Gustafson birdied No. 10 to reach 15 under.
Ochoa made consecutive birdies, while Gustafson three-putted the par-3 12thfor a bogey. Ochoa birdied No. 15 to move into a tie.
Gustafson then birdied No. 17 to reach 16 under.
Ochoa’s approach shot on the 18th rolled past the hole, but she sank the16-foot putt for birdie, raising her first as the crowd cheered. Gustafson madea par.
Unlike the first two days when her putting gave her problems, Gustafson wasfairly steady around the greens with five putts of 20 feet or longer and camewithin one stroke of matching her opening-round 65. She sank a 20-footer forbirdie on No. 10, survived her three- putt on the 12th, then made short birdieputts on Nos. 16 and 17.

CARY, N.C. (AP)—Tom Pernice Jr. moved into position to become the 15th playerto win his Champions Tour debut, shooting his second bogey-free 5-under 67 onSaturday to take a one-shot lead in the SAS Championship.
“If you’re playing good, it doesn’t matter what tour you’re on,” saidPernice, a two-time winner on the PGA Tour. “And everything’s been prettysolid. All in all, I’m very thrilled.”
Pernice is trying to become the third player this year to win in his debut,following Tom Lehman, who teamed with Bernhard Langer in the Liberty MutualLegends, and Senior PGA winner Michael Allen. In the 2007 SAS, Mark Wiebe wonhis tour debut. Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player also won in theirfirst senior starts.
Dan Forsman and first-round co-leaders Denis Watson and Russ Cochran weretied for second at Prestonwood Country Club. Forsman shot a 68, and Watson andCochran had 69s.
Cochran struggled with his iron play after birdieing the first two holes.
“I hit way too many weak iron shots,” said Cochran, making only his 12thstart on the 50-and-over tour. “But I got away with an awful lot. The goodstart on one and two helped because I had given it away by 10. From 11 on, Iplayed pretty good.”
Forsman and R.W. Eaks held a share of the lead late in the round untilbogeys pushed them back. Forsman hit his tee shot on 16 into the water, butsalvaged a bogey on the hole. He followed with a birdie on No. 17.
Eaks, who struggled with a back injury through much of the back nine,bogeyed the last hole for a 69, dropping him into a three-way tie for fifth withNick Price (68) and Joey Sindelar (69), two strokes back at 8 under.
Fred Funk and Loren Roberts, who hold the top two spots in the CharlesSchwab Cup points race, were tied for 29th at 3 under.
Pernice, who turned 50 this month, has struggled this year on the PGA Tour,missing the cut in 11 of 22 events. He has one top-10 finish—in the Bob Hopein January.
“I think there’s still something left in the tank to compete against thebest,” said Pernice, who still wants to play a full PGA schedule next year.
But he also said he felt privileged to be among so many Hall of Famers atthe SAS Championship.
“It’s like a family out here,” Pernice said of the Champions Tour. “Theguys out here have been wonderful. It’s a great experience to get such a warmwelcome from the guys.”

VERSAILLES, France, Sept 27 (Reuters) – Britain and Irelandwon their fifth successive Seve Trophy on Sunday withContinental Europe’s fightback proving in vain.
In an absorbing finale, Paul McGinley’s team took the match16 1/2 to 11 1/2 but lost the singles 6-4 to Thomas Bjorn’scontinentals.
After dominating the first three days, Britain and Irelandneeded only two wins from the 10 singles. When Anthony Wallpulled out suffering an injured shoulder and shared a point withSpain’s Alvaro Quiros, it was only one and a half points.
The trophy was secured in the first two matches when RoryMcIlroy edged a pulsating match with world number five HenrikStenson of Sweden by one hole and Graeme McDowell took care oflast year’s European number one Robert Karlsson of Sweden 3 & 2.
In the first match, McIlroy collected an eagle and fivebirdies to Stenson’s eagle and four birdies but it was adouble-bogey by the Swede on the penultimate hole that handedthe match to the Briton.
Both players smashed into trees on the 17th but Stenson thenhit his second shot into the heavy rough, to allow his20-year-old opponent to go ahead. Both made pars at the 18th,McIlroy sinking a nervy four-footer for the win.
“I’d be lying if I said my hands weren’t a little shaky overthe putt on the last,” McIlroy told reporters. “It was a greatresult for the team because of what was happening behind andgood to put the point on the board.”
Stenson, admitted to “fighting my swing all week” but paidtribute to McIlroy.
“He just keeps improving and I fully expect him to be in theRyder Cup squad next year,” Stenson told reporters. “In fact,when he holed a 30-footer I told him I wouldn’t mind playingwith him next October if he keeps rolling them in like that.”
JOB DONE
McDowell was never behind against Karlsson, who was playinghis first tournament for nearly five months after retinalproblems. Although Karlsson got it back to only one down after14, errors by the Swede cost him any chance of recovering thedeficit.
Continental Europe were in the ascendency during McDowelland McIlroy’s matches and were winning all the remaining tiesbefore running out of steam.
“The more blue (of the continentals) I saw on the board Ithought ‘this is going to be more important than we thought,let’s get the job done’,” McDowell told reporters.
“And thankfully I did.”
Bjorn had instructed his team to “play for your pride” andthey responded determinedly, none more so than Dane AndersHansen. The former European PGA champion ran up a staggering 10birdies in 12 holes to crush Englishman Nick Dougherty 7 & 6.
Englishman Robert Rock earned the only other Britain andIreland point by defeating Spain’s Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano byone hole. Chris Wood of England, with the week’s best record of4 1/2 points, gained a half with Swede Peter Hanson.
Seve Ballesteros, the five-times major champion who createdthe contest, currently recovering from brain tumour surgery, wasunable to make the closing ceremony but congratulated the teamsvia a television broadcast.

ATLANTA, Sept 27 (Reuters) – Phil Mickelson rattled up fourbirdies in seven holes to overhaul fellow American Kenny Perryand snatch a two-shot lead midway through Sunday’s final roundof the Tour Championship.
Four strokes off the pace overnight at East Lake, theleft-hander raced to the turn in a sizzling four-under-par 31 toclose in on his third PGA Tour victory of the year.
Behind the green in two at the par-five ninth, Mickelson gotup and down for his birdie to reach eight under overall, twoahead of Perry who covered the front nine in an untidy 37.
World number one Tiger Woods, after nine holes, was afurther shot back at five under in a tie for third withcompatriots Steve Marino and Sean O’Hair.
With FedExCup honours also on the line at East Lake, Marinohad completed 11 holes and O’Hair nine in the PGA Tour’s fourthand final playoff event of the season.
Woods, four behind the pace-setting Perry overnight, made apoor start, bogeying the par-four first after pulling his teeshot well left behind a tree from where he could only chip outsideways back on to the fairway.
That left him three behind Perry who parred the opening holebefore briefly stretching his lead to four when he rolled in a29-foot birdie putt at the par-three second.
However, Perry immediately stumbled with a bogey at thethird after overshooting the green with his approach and endingup with an awkward lie in the back left bunker.
Moments later his lead was trimmed to just two whenMickelson drained a 30-footer at the fourth to register hissecond birdie in a row.
Perry dropped his second shot of the day at the par-fourfifth, where he ended up in the right rough off the tee, to liejust one stroke ahead of the chasing pack at seven under.
Mickelson spectacularly birdied the par-four eighth to drawlevel with Perry, almost holing out with his approach from 123yards before tapping in the one-foot putt.
